The Americans who are currently stranded in Afghanistan are now left to wonder if they can receive a stimulus check in order to get home. That’s what this situation has devolved to, sadly enough. Unless these people can come up with the money that they need to pay for a rescue flight, they are going to be stuck there forever.
The Taliban is already licking their chops on this one, this much we know. Is the deep state shaking people down in order to get them home? It doesn’t sound quite so severe but things are still worrisome. We are currently at a point where we cannot rule these sorts of things out. Politico has more about this developing story:
“Even though U.S. officials tell NatSec Daily and others that evacuation flights from Kabul will be free, people trying to catch a plane in the Afghan capital say differently. One person said State Department staff were seeking large payments — up to $2,000 — from American passengers and even more from non-U.S. citizens.
When we relayed what this person told us to the State Department, a spokesperson didn’t deny that this is happening.

“U.S. law requires that evacuation assistance to private U.S. citizens or third-country nationals be provided ‘on a reimbursable basis to the maximum extent practicable.’ The situation is extremely fluid, and we are working to overcome obstacles as they arise,” the spokesperson said.”
We are now trying to figure out where anyone in Afghanistan is supposed to come up with this type of scratch on such short notice. How can anyone think about such a thing when their life is at stake? Biden should have had a much better plan for this but he’s got pudding between his ears. The kind of foresight needed to pull off a withdrawal like this is mostly beyond him.
Apparently, the deep state has found quite the loophole to exploit here. By federal law, no one can be charged when they board the plane. Evidently, the bill is issued later and yes, these people are going to be on the hook for the monies in question. In fact, they are not even going to be allowed to renew their passports until the flights have been paid off in full.
Pretty neat, huh? While we can understand the policy in a vacuum, we do not live in a vacuum. Put it this way: if we are trapped abroad and the federal government has to be summoned to save you, you should probably be bearing some of those costs. After all, they are rescuing you from a situation of your own making.

Yes, "congestion" is the word they went with. pic.twitter.com/2wt3pdzhtk

This is a bit different, though. These people are being told that they need to pony up for a mistake that was made by the federal government. They now need to be evacuated, through no fault of their own. No one should have to pay their own government to cover the costs of a crisis that they are fully responsible for creating.
We’ll leave you with this telling quote from the Wall Street Journal. This piece ran a mere five days after Biden claimed that Afghanistan may not fall. It’s a hilarious read and a perfect summation of where we are as a country:
“About two dozen State Department officials serving at the embassy in Kabul sent an internal memo to Secretary of State Antony Blinken and another top State Department official last month warning of the potential collapse of Kabul soon after the Aug. 31 troop withdrawal deadline, according to a U.S. official and a person familiar with the cable.
The cable, sent via the State Department’s confidential dissent channel, warned of rapid territorial gains by the Taliban and the subsequent collapse of Afghan security forces, and offered recommendations on ways to mitigate the crisis and speed up an evacuation, the two people said…”
Joe Biden, everyone……he’s a deep thinker, isn’t he? Our thoughts and prayers are with these stranded Americans…
